Catalog Copywriting Skeptics

Since posting that interview with Jay White about catalog copywriting, a few “skeptics” have asked me the same question:

“Is it REALLY true you can jump into the catalog copywriting business with little or no experience and start making decent money right out the gate. Or is this just more hype?”

Can’t say I blame them, either.

You can’t swing a bat anymore without hitting some kind of “how to make six figures as a copywriter” claim.

So I decided to post this email Jay White got from one of his students.

An email that serves as a great example of how people — with no previous catalog writing experience or training — are making money as in-demand catalog copywriters right now.

Jay from Catalog Copywriting Secrets here, and I wanted to pass along an unsolicited email I received this weekend.

It’s from Catalog Copywriting Secrets member Lenore Archambo, and it literally made me blush when I read it.

Hi Jay,

For 15 years I’ve been a stay at home mom and have tried so many things to supplement our income. I’ve bought programs and courses that were a complete waste of money. You know, the kind that tell you that you can make money writing but they don’t teach you HOW. I just couldn’t figure out where I fit into this whole copywriting world.

Then you came along with your catalog course and piqued my interest. Your course is the best! I finally got up the nerve to contact a local catalog company. They responded and wanted to see my samples. Then they wanted me to take a copy test. Next thing I know I’m sitting with the copy manager, her manager, and one of the editors going over my assignments.

I can’t believe it. I’m a working copywriter and the money is pretty good. And get this, they are the only ones I’ve contacted. How do you like that?! One out of one! I may not even look for other clients right now; they’ve told me they have loads of work.

This is all because of you, I can’t thank you enough. I’m soooo happy. You were right… catalog copywriting is fun. It’s actually quite addictive.
