Last month I was \u201cprivy\u201d to someone giving another person bad\u00a0advice.<\/p>\n
It was about copywriting.<\/p>\n
And, while practically everything my advice-giving friend said was\u00a0solid and right on the money\u2026 there was one piece of info that was\u00a0downright bad info that could have made the person (who I also\u00a0know) receiving the advice look like a wannabe and get lower\u00a0quality clients.<\/p>\n
Just about 99% of my friend’s advice great.<\/p>\n
But 1% was bad.<\/p>\n
And, that 1% was bad enough where \u2014 like a gnat wriggling around in\u00a0a bowl of potato salad \u2014 it would have made the rest of the advice\u00a0tainted and rendered inedible to use.<\/p>\n
The moral of the story?<\/p>\n
Actually, there are two:<\/p>\n
1. If you\u2019re a newbie seeking advice, take all info with a grain of\u00a0salt. Don\u2019t believe something just because that\u2019s what everyone\u00a0else is doing (if anything, that\u2019s a good reason NOT to do whatever\u00a0it is)<\/p>\n
2. If you give advice, double check your work<\/p>\n
For example:<\/p>\n
There are a lot of newbie copywriters coming on the scene.<\/p>\n
And, a lot of them simply can\u2019t afford to pay a seasoned pro a lot\u00a0of money for consulting and coaching, etc. So, they will turn to\u00a0less experienced (but still good enough) copywriters for advice,\u00a0critiques, analysis, etc. If you are that person giving the advice,\u00a0double check everything you say with someone who has more\u00a0experience than you.<\/p>\n
Guessing can cost people a lot more than money.<\/p>\n
It can cost them their reputation.<\/p>\n
The effectiveness of their brand.<\/p>\n
And, even their very livelihoods.<\/p>\n
