My ex-copywriting apprentice recently got this Flakebook message:<\/p>\n
\u201cHi I\u2019m reaching out to say hi since we are a friends, but never had a chance to speak\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Then, when she didn\u2019t reply he writes:<\/p>\n
\u201cI just love seen messages without response\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Sheesh.<\/p>\n
Needy much, bro?<\/p>\n
(Note to men: Attractive women get swamped with cold messages on\u00a0flakebook from strangers, don\u2019t have time to reply to the all, and,\u00a0I am told, sometimes find them “creepy.”)<\/p>\n
Anyway, I\u2019m far from being a social media expert.<\/p>\n
(Or even an ex-spurt.)<\/p>\n
But, here\u2019s how to contact people (or let them know you exist) who\u00a0you really want to talk to without sounding like some kind of mouth\u00a0breather:<\/p>\n
1. Join in on a hot discussion the person is already in<\/p>\n
2. Value their time<\/p>\n
(Hint: mindless idle chit-chat via messaging wastes time)<\/p>\n
3. Don\u2019t be a dork<\/p>\n
Pretty simple.<\/p>\n
And you know what?<\/p>\n
This is good advice for email marketers too.<\/p>\n
Writing emails about subjects your list is interested in (or that\u00a0you make interesting for them), valuing their time (not sending\u00a0boring emails), and not acting like a dork is a good way to get\u00a0engagement, sales, and, yes, people replying back if\u2019n that\u2019s what\u00a0you want.<\/p>\n
