{"id":11167,"date":"2016-09-07T06:30:41","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T13:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=11167"},"modified":"2016-09-07T06:30:41","modified_gmt":"2016-09-07T13:30:41","slug":"why-checking-your-emails-is-literally-doing-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-checking-your-emails-is-literally-doing-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Checking Your Emails Is Literally Doing Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>True story:<\/p>\n<p>While back my pal Ryan Healy wrote an article about how scientists discovered reacting to a never-ending stream of \u201cinformation bursts\u201d (you know, like checking your email\u2026) literally \u201cexcites\u201d your brain to the point where it dumps dopamine into your system \u2014 the stuff that creates feelings of happiness.<\/p>\n<p>It makes you feel goooood.<\/p>\n<p>And the MORE you release it, the MORE you crave it.<\/p>\n<p>And the MORE you crave it, the MORE you want to keep doing whatever caused ye olde \u201cpleasure dump\u201d in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m no health goo-roo.<\/p>\n<p>And maybe I\u2019m just watching too much \u201cBreaking Bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But know what this sounds like to me?<\/p>\n<p>Checking email is like taking drugs!<\/p>\n<p>Freaky, eh?<\/p>\n<p>But at the same time, it sure explains why so many of my \u201cEmail Players\u201d subscribers are kicking gluteus assimus (I have an ever growing stack of testimonials from the Email Playerdom \u2014 which I always release towards the end of the month to promote the next issue).<\/p>\n<p>What can I say?<\/p>\n<p>People love a good email.<\/p>\n<p>They look forward to it, even.<\/p>\n<p>And, yes, their brains FEEN it.<\/p>\n<p>They need their fix, Heisenberg.<\/p>\n<p>Give it to them.<\/p>\n<p>The stipulation is this only is the case if you do them right.<\/p>\n<p>Hardly anyone does them right.<\/p>\n<p>Most people simply don\u2019t know what they&#8217;re doing.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the \u201cEmail Addiction\u201d mastermind later next month I\u2019m doing with my pal, professional copy chief, stand-up comic, and copywriter extraordinaire Kevin Rogers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the details:<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s going to be on October 24-25, 2016 in sunny St. Petersburg, FL.<\/p>\n<p>(hotel to be determined)<\/p>\n<p>Price: $3,995.00<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s not cheap, nor is it for cheapskates.<\/p>\n<p>And, seating is limited to just 6 people.<\/p>\n<p>That means very small, very intimate (ooh yeah baby), with lots of personal help\/attention.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, we are not just letting anyone who applies come.<\/p>\n<p>If you want in, you have to apply first.<\/p>\n<p>Not only do you need to tell us about your business and market (there\u2019s a chance we can\u2019t even help you, depending on your situation, offer, list, etc \u2014 a cold hard fact some people are just going to have to accept) but also why you should even be allowed in the room at all.
