I recently saw a flakebook post from a freelancer who got into a bit of a pickle.<\/p>\n
The tl;dr version is this:<\/p>\n
The copywriter found a client they liked, got excited at the sweet promises whispered in their ear of being put on retainer, then, going against their own policy, delivered a final draft before being paid for it (which the copywriter acknowledged was a muck up \u2014 and, let\u2019s face it, it happens).<\/p>\n
Then (shockingly!)\u2026 the client never paid.<\/p>\n
Yes, even after sending the client reminders, and all that jazz.<\/p>\n
Anyway, this is one of many reasons I don\u2019t do client work.<\/p>\n
In fact, other than a sales letter I wrote last year for a buddy (I was supposed to just consult the originally hired copywriter on the project, but then just did it myself, screw it), I haven\u2019t done client work in exactly 6 years come this August 1st.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t hate the players of copywriting (freelancers and clients).<\/p>\n
I simply hate the game.<\/p>\n
And in my way of thinking, why play a game you hate?<\/p>\n
Anyway, this is why I keep things simple and neat and not dependent on clients.<\/p>\n

1.
