{"id":12734,"date":"2018-02-10T08:17:27","date_gmt":"2018-02-10T16:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=12734"},"modified":"2018-02-10T08:17:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T16:17:27","slug":"the-greatest-persuasion-story-never-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/the-greatest-persuasion-story-never-told\/","title":{"rendered":"The Greatest Persuasion Story Never Told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my favorite persuasion stories:<\/p>\n<p>When the late, great Jim Camp (who was known as the world\u2019s most feared negotiator \u2014 and a tremendous mind in the field of teaching persuasion) was a young man, he got a job hawking $100 water filters door to door in a neighborhood with terrible water.<\/p>\n<p>He followed the company script word-for-word.<\/p>\n<p>He became the best objection answering man the company had.<\/p>\n<p>And, he knew all the sales \u201ctricks\u201d marketing proles get the warm fuzzies about.<\/p>\n<p>The result?<\/p>\n<p>In two weeks he didn\u2019t make a single sale.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, he said he couldn\u2019t even get anyone to hear him out at all \u2014 making him talk with them through the crack of a barely opened door.<\/p>\n<p>So what did he do?<\/p>\n<p>He threw the stewpid sales script away.<\/p>\n<p>And, instead of going into the typical sales speak when someone answered the door, he simply said something along the lines of &#8220;How does your water treat your hair?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What happened?<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, doors flew open.<\/p>\n<p>Wallets came out.<\/p>\n<p>And, he said he made more of the green stuff doing that part time than he did as a full time commercial pilot!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I consider that one of the greatest persuasion stories never told.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not about your product, it\u2019s about your prospect.<\/p>\n<p>Their world, not yours.<\/p>\n<p>Their vision\/problems\/desires, not your product.<\/p>\n<p>Apply this in your ads, emails, and sales copy and you can\u2019t lose.<\/p>\n<p>So simple.<\/p>\n<p>So obvious.<\/p>\n<p>And, so profitable\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, another master of negotiation and persuasion (shrieks from his haters on Twitter notwithstanding, as they, ironically, do exactly what he wants them to do) is President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Except, his ways are a lot sneakier than Jim Camp\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>And, they take a lot more guts to pull off.<\/p>\n<p>But, if you are someone who isn\u2019t afraid of being aggressive in your emails and sales copy, I reckon you will love the March \u201cEmail Players\u201d issue I have cooking up for you.<\/p>\n<p>To subscribe in plenty of time for that issue, go here:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\"><strong>www.EmailPlayers.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my favorite persuasion stories: When the late, great Jim Camp (who was known as the world\u2019s most feared negotiator \u2014 and a tremendous mind in the field of teaching persuasion) was a young man, he got a job hawking $100 water filters door to door in a neighborhood with terrible water.
