{"id":14162,"date":"2019-12-23T11:36:23","date_gmt":"2019-12-23T19:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=14162"},"modified":"2019-12-23T11:36:23","modified_gmt":"2019-12-23T19:36:23","slug":"second-hand-copywriting-goo-roos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/second-hand-copywriting-goo-roos\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Hand Copywriting Goo-roos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I re-watched the movie \u201cSecond Hand Lions\u201d \u2014 about a neglected boy with a flakey mother sent to live with his eccentric great-uncles on a Texas farm.<\/p>\n<p>One of the great uncles was an adventurer &amp; soldier.<\/p>\n<p>And the other uncle tells the boy about those adventures.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, his uncles are bored, with more money than they can ever spend, and one of the things they do to pass the time is sit around and wait for traveling salesmen to show up and then use them as target practice.<\/p>\n<p>Such is their contempt for sales people.<\/p>\n<p>Until, one day, the boy says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWhy not see what he&#8217;s selling? Maybe it&#8217;s something you want to buy.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And so, they do.<\/p>\n<p>And, they end up not only buying all kinds of things they love to buy, but start liking the salesmen too.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of sales lessons packed in that scene.<\/p>\n<p>Most of it \u201cbetween the lines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like, for example, the power of selling what people want to buy. Or the impact having someone \u201cvouch\u201d for you before selling someone can have. Or why it\u2019s much wiser to sell yourself before selling your products\/service to someone.
