{"id":144,"date":"2008-08-01T20:41:47","date_gmt":"2008-08-01T20:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-copy-is-not-king-part-2\/"},"modified":"2008-08-01T20:41:47","modified_gmt":"2008-08-01T20:41:47","slug":"why-copy-is-not-king-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-copy-is-not-king-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Copy Is Not &#8220;King&#8221; Part Two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Couple days ago I threw up <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.affiliatetrumpcard.com\" rel=\"noopener\">a rather sloppy ad<\/a><\/strong> held together by &#8220;spit and bale wire.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You can read it at:<\/p>\n<p><center><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.AffiliateTrumpCard.com\" rel=\"noopener\">www.AffiliateTrumpCard.com<\/a><\/strong><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I put less than 20 minutes into writing this ad (if <em>that<\/em> much).<\/p>\n<p>And (as you can see) there is no &#8220;killer&#8221; headline, body copy or overall theme.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the only copywriting &#8220;technique&#8221; (although I don&#8217;t consider it a &#8220;technique&#8221; &#8212; just honest marketing) I consciously included is &#8220;candor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The result?<\/p>\n<p>According to Google Optimizer it&#8217;s converting at over 19% response so far.<\/p>\n<p>Now, here&#8217;s the question:<\/p>\n<p>Is the (<em>blatantly<\/em> crappy) &#8220;copy&#8221; giving it a 19% conversion?<\/p>\n<p>Or is it something else?<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nIt&#8217;s only been seen by people on my own list (a <em>warm<\/em> market, who have been thoroughly prepared for it for the last couple months &#8212; and <u>many were actually looking FORWARD to its release<\/u>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\nThe $10 price is extremely attractive &#8212; especially to many non-US customers whose money is much stronger than our dollar right now.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\nAnd, as icing on the cake, it&#8217;s sold via ClickBank, which means you can refund it very easily, and still <em>keep<\/em> the product anyway since it&#8217;s digital.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My point?<\/p>\n<p>I seriously doubt the &#8220;copy&#8221; was responsible for most (if any) of the sales.<\/p>\n<p>And while copy is important&#8230; it is not &#8220;king.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just like you can read in any decent marketing book, it&#8217;s FAR more important to sell a product people <em>already<\/em> want, to people who are <em>already<\/em> willing to pay for it, with an offer that&#8217;s <em>hard<\/em> to refuse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Speaking of &#8220;The Affiliate Trump Card&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Here are a couple customer comments so far&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Dude, you put a lot of value into your Affiliate Trump Card product.
