{"id":14666,"date":"2021-02-27T15:45:26","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T23:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=14666"},"modified":"2021-02-27T15:45:26","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T23:45:26","slug":"always-a-checklist-never-a-check","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/always-a-checklist-never-a-check\/","title":{"rendered":"Always A Checklist, Never A Check"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year one of my readers sent me a screenshot of someone teaching what to do after someone opts-in to a list.<\/p>\n<p>It went something like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Day 1: Tell them what to expect + a free gift<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2: Share your story in a dramatic way<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3: Share the epiphany you had + free basic solution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 4: Share the hidden benefits of solution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 5: CTA to full solution i.e., your offer<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All these supposed \u201cclever\u201d checklists of things to do to get a checks coming in that try to gameify &amp; hack their way into the sale are simply a waste of effort &amp; energy to anyone who knows how to actually market, sell, and close deals.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for their clumsiness:<\/p>\n<p>They are making it about the marketing instead of the market.<\/p>\n<p>Once you realize it\u2019s about them and not the marketing, the whole game changes.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>When I wrote the 14-day sequence for Learnistic, I didn\u2019t sit down and say, \u201con day 1 I\u2019m gonna tell them what to expect over the next 14 days. On day 2 I\u2019ll give them this other free gift to show what a swell guy I am. On day 3 I\u2019ll tell them about that time I was sitting on the toilet and had an epiphany. On day 4 I\u2019ll tell them about how Aunt Martha in the grove found the hidden benefit to\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No, no, no.<\/p>\n<p>What I did was ask:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cHow can I build a relationship with these people?\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And then that dictated the content, the strategy, and the approach.<\/p>\n<p>It ain\u2019t about checklists, it\u2019s about relationships with your list.<\/p>\n<p>And on that note:<\/p>\n<p>If you want some advice on list-building \u2014 both free &amp; paid \u2014 that bring them in with an at least somewhat established relationship before they even hear from you\u2026 I go deep into both in the upcoming March \u201cEmail Players\u201d issue.
