{"id":1484,"date":"2009-02-03T17:19:43","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T17:19:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=1484"},"modified":"2009-02-03T17:19:43","modified_gmt":"2009-02-03T17:19:43","slug":"10-copywriting-killers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/10-copywriting-killers\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Copywriting Killers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Been getting a TON of new client inquiries lately.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s because the economy is sucking and marketers know they can&#8217;t just rely on the &#8220;kool-aid drinker&#8221; part of their lists (who will buy <strong>ANYTHING<\/strong> they sell) anymore.  <\/p>\n<p>Or if they are seduced by my obnoxiously political emails.<\/p>\n<p>Or if they are just temporarily <em>insane<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the case&#8230; usually they send me the ads they need fixed along with their requests.<\/p>\n<p>And lemme tell ya: <\/p>\n<p><strong>What I see is NEVER pretty.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of these ads have some MAJOR mistakes in them.<\/p>\n<p>Mistakes that are almost certainly KILLING their response.<\/p>\n<p>But that are (thankfully) very easy to correct.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I thought it&#8217;d be neat to list the 10 most common &#8220;copywriting killers&#8221; I&#8217;ve been seeing in these ads.<\/p>\n<p>That way, if you see any you are making, you can quickly adjust and improve your sales.<\/p>\n<p>Ready?<\/p>\n<p>Okay, here goez:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.  Headlines that impress other copywriters but not their market<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2.  Relying on bragging, boasting and hype<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.  Not writing to the <em>skeptic<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4.  Not being engaging<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.  No logical flow of information <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>6.  Too much swiping<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.  Too wordy<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>8.  Weak offer<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.  Not enough research (i.e. LAZINESS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>10. Lame bullet points that put you to <em>sleep<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are a LOT more mistakes than this.<\/p>\n<p>But these are the biggies.<\/p>\n<p>The ones that, if you ONLY corrected these 10, would make your ads pull much higher response every time.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t believe me, use this check list on any ad not converting well.<\/p>\n<p>I think you&#8217;ll be pleasantly surprised by the resultz.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Speaking of check lists&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; on page 205 of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.CopywritingGrabBag.com\">The Copywriting Grab Bag<\/a><\/strong> you&#8217;ll find a special marketing check list created by a true marketing &#8220;genius&#8221; named Mike Winicki.<\/p>\n<p>Mike has consulted with, worked for and studied close to 5,000 businesses.
