{"id":1666,"date":"2009-03-20T15:47:10","date_gmt":"2009-03-20T15:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=1666"},"modified":"2009-03-20T15:47:10","modified_gmt":"2009-03-20T15:47:10","slug":"3-hidden-sales-lessons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/3-hidden-sales-lessons\/","title":{"rendered":"3 &#8220;Hidden&#8221; Sales Lessons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the recent email about price shoppers vs investors?<\/p>\n<p>The one where, at the end I said that, although the email was a <em>blatant<\/em> sales pitch, there was a &#8220;hidden&#8221; sales lesson in it?<\/p>\n<p>And how I also asked if you saw the lesson?<\/p>\n<p>Well, let&#8217;s just say the response has been <strong>VERY<\/strong> interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Most people who responded caught one of them.<\/p>\n<p>But only one subscriber caught all 3.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what she said about the email and also my <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.CopywritingGrabBag.com\">copywriting book<\/a><\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ah Ben,<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read [your email] at least 10 times and still am not sure I can put the selling message into words.<\/p>\n<p>1. I melted when you said, &#8220;There&#8217;s NO shame&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2. I can sit here and gripe about $129, when I could be making a bundle of money, if I&#8217;d just buy the book, hush and learn.<\/p>\n<p>3. I am getting soooo much more from this book than the latter version, that I should feel good you&#8217;re only charging $129, instead of &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>4. It&#8217;s there, get it, if you want to better your business or go ahead and lose.<\/p>\n<p>Hum. I know I&#8217;ll sit down this evening and read it again. I spend my last hour reading the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.CopywritingGrabBag.com\">Copywriting Grab Bag<\/a>, before retiring.<\/p>\n<p>Everything is making more sense to me, the more I read. Especially when reading the appendixes, when you suggest to do so.<\/p>\n<p>My Easter Basket page was simpler than it would have been, had I not been studying your work.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230;. Once again, THANKS BEN for being there and for me finding you.<\/p>\n<p>Have a great day!<\/p>\n<p>-Shirley Bass\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shirley, thank you so much for taking the time to write that.<\/p>\n<p>You definitely nailed 3 big lessons from that email.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Takeaway<\/li>\n<li>Eliminating price resistance<\/li>\n<li>Posture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Posture being the one everyone else missed.<\/p>\n<p>Funny how these are not &#8220;copywriting&#8221;, but old fashioned <strong>SALES<\/strong> strategies, eh?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s no coincidence that day&#8217;s book sales were higher than the previous several days **combined**.<\/p>\n<p>As the great copywriters have said over the past 100 years:  <\/p>\n<p><strong>If you want to get good at copywriting, study SELLING.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because let&#8217;s face it:  <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not exactly a walk in the park trying to persuade a complete stranger, who can&#8217;t <em>see<\/em> or <em>hear<\/em> you, to give up their hard-earned moolah (especially now) to buy something they didn&#8217;t even know <em>existed<\/em> 5 minutes ago.<\/p>\n<p>And yet master salesmen &#8212; especially the &#8220;belly-to-belly&#8221; kind &#8212; sell to <em>skeptical<\/em> strangers all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Study both sales AND copywriting masters, and you won&#8217;t go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, That&#8217;s it for today.<\/p>\n<p>Next time&#8230; something wild and wacky.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> The best copywriters are almost always savvy sales pros.
