{"id":1691,"date":"2009-03-30T16:24:51","date_gmt":"2009-03-30T16:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=1691"},"modified":"2009-03-30T16:24:51","modified_gmt":"2009-03-30T16:24:51","slug":"return-of-the-marketing-monsters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/return-of-the-marketing-monsters\/","title":{"rendered":"Return Of The Marketing Monsters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember that &#8220;marketing monsters&#8221; email from Friday?<\/p>\n<p>The one about all the &#8220;monsters&#8221; waiting in the shadows, ready to <em>leap<\/em> out at you and suck up your moolah?<\/p>\n<p>Well, guess what?<\/p>\n<p>I gotta &#8220;sequel&#8221; for you today with even <strong>MORE<\/strong> monsters and how to defend against them.<\/p>\n<p>Here they are&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freebie-Seeking Frankenstein  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This monster roams the countryside looking to attach new <em>parts<\/em> to his body.<\/p>\n<p>And after you&#8217;ve given him a free arm, leg or other valuable part of yourself&#8230; he doesn&#8217;t stop.  <\/p>\n<p>He relentlessly lurches towards you, arms stretched out in front of him, chasing you around to give him even <strong>MORE<\/strong> free stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, you can never defeat him.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s practically <em>immortal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But you CAN ward him off.<\/p>\n<p>First by ONLY giving him something small.<\/p>\n<p>And second, by making it crystal clear everything else must be <em>paid<\/em> for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Customer Service Chupacabra<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most don&#8217;t believe this &#8220;thing&#8221; even exists.<\/p>\n<p>And even those who do, think it only attacks OTHER people.  <\/p>\n<p>But once you buy something from him, you&#8217;ll realize this reptile-like being, with razor-sharp <em>quills<\/em> on its back, is all too REAL.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>And the legends ARE <em>true<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of his favorite attacks include: <\/p>\n<p>Putting giant barriers up to prevent you from asking questions about products you bought&#8230; refusing to admit he screwed up&#8230; making you spend <em>weeks<\/em> to get the simplest of problems fixed&#8230; and even treating you like a <em>leper<\/em> when you DO get his attention.<\/p>\n<p>What can you do to stop him?<\/p>\n<p>Ask your fellow travelers where he lurks before going out at night.  <\/p>\n<p>Avoid the dark, shadowy corners of the Internet where he dwells.  <\/p>\n<p>And <strong>ALWAYS<\/strong> beware who you buy from.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testing &#038; Measuring Medusa <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This being can be VERY dangerous to newbies.<\/p>\n<p>You see, she likes to test, track and measure <em>everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Which is good.<\/p>\n<p>But the danger comes when you gaze into her eyes &#8212; and she <em>paralyzes<\/em> you with too many options, ideas and her maze of testing data.  <\/p>\n<p>So much so you may get overwhelmed&#8230; and never do anything.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, her data rarely helps, anyway.  <\/p>\n<p>As it&#8217;s usually specific to her products and market.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there IS treasure in her cave you can profit from.  <\/p>\n<p>Just don&#8217;t gaze into her eyes and let her turn your marketing efforts to <em>stone<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content Stealing Cyclops <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This insidious monster has just one eye.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s always fixed on <strong>OTHER<\/strong> peoples&#8217; content and stealing it.<\/p>\n<p>He never speaks or talks.  He just grunts and snarls and glowers over everyone&#8217;s content with his one, piercing eye.  <\/p>\n<p>When he finds something he likes, he shamelessly takes it (with no regard to ethics, rules or copyright laws) and puts it on HIS websites.<\/p>\n<p>To make matters worse:  <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s almost <strong>IMPOSSIBLE<\/strong> to find his lair.<\/p>\n<p>He has no email, phone number or contact info. <\/p>\n<p>And since he puts your content on sites like &#8220;blogspot&#8221; blogs, you have no recourse except jumping through hundreds of hoops that are not worth your time.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s not much you can do about this one.<\/p>\n<p>But there are ways to use his evil deeds to your advantage if you use a little strategy.<\/p>\n<p>OK fellow traveler, that&#8217;s it for today.<\/p>\n<p>These are some of the most <em>ruthless<\/em> monsters roaming the countryside.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to protect yourself, get thee to the castle armory and strap a copy of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/copywritinggrabbag.com\">The Copywriting Grab Bag<\/a><\/strong> to your side:<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.CopywritingGrabBag.com\">www.CopywritingGrabBag.com<\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the ultimate weapon to defeat these vile fiends.<\/p>\n<p>As well as protect the customers in your niche.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember that &#8220;marketing monsters&#8221; email from Friday?
