{"id":17070,"date":"2024-11-16T13:39:31","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T13:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=17070"},"modified":"2024-11-16T13:39:31","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T13:39:31","slug":"the-new-i-have-to-ask-my-wife-first-to-make-business-decisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/the-new-i-have-to-ask-my-wife-first-to-make-business-decisions\/","title":{"rendered":"The new \u201cI have to ask my wife first\u201d to make business decisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few months ago, a would-be BerserkerMail client said he decided not to use our platform because his marketing manager insisted they use something more \u201cmainstream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That sounded like a guy asking his wife before making a business decision.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s doubtful we can help guys like that either way, so was for the best.<\/p>\n<p>But it got me thinking, if BerserkerMail was \u201cmainstream&#8221; it would almost certainly\u2026<\/p>\n<p>* have managers who care more about getting your pronouns right than building a stable platform that helps make your business more sales<\/p>\n<p>* be more proud to feature podcast episodes about DEI, with guests who look like they should not be allowed within 1000 feet of a public school, instead of episodes about how to make more sales with email<\/p>\n<p>* keep raising prices even while taking on $100s of millions in loans, investors, series C funding<\/p>\n<p>* charge for a laundry list of pointless features you&#8217;ll never use, and then brag about them with a list comparing ourselves to all the other mainstream platforms<\/p>\n<p>* encourage you not to mail often because it\u2019s expensive and takes away from the owner\u2019s piggy banks<\/p>\n<p>* cater to mommy bloggers who think they need to plaster their emails with graphics, pretty borders, and a dozen different links in each email<\/p>\n<p>* create features around what&#8217;s more convenient for the development team instead of what\u2019s most convenient for the clients<\/p>\n<p>* have a &#8216;free&#8217; option that gets shyt deliverability to turn on the email marketing proles who don&#8217;t know any better<\/p>\n<p>* have support run by people who have never sent commercial emails to their own lists selling their own offers in their entire lives\u2026 and just stack &amp; reply to tickets with copy &amp; paste answers<\/p>\n<p>* give nonsensical advice about \u201cgaming\u201d Gmail for more engagement instead of encouraging businesses to write better emails people want to engage with<\/p>\n<p>* tell you to focus on open rates instead of sales<\/p>\n<p>* chase and appease price shoppers instead of value shoppers<\/p>\n<p>And so it goes.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re definitely not mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>And, in fact, will just continue to do the exact opposite of mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>The same can be said for the paid Email Players newsletter. I&#8217;ve been publishing it for almost 15 years, and the reason for its longevity ain&#8217;t my sparkling personality.
