{"id":18703,"date":"2026-04-07T14:22:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=18703"},"modified":"2026-04-07T14:23:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:23:43","slug":"how-to-read-fat-books-in-a-thin-time-frame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/how-to-read-fat-books-in-a-thin-time-frame\/","title":{"rendered":"How to read fat books in a thin time frame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month I mentioned in an email about how I like to read the Bible 3-4 times per year, including reading it in 41-days earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Since writing that email, I finished it again last week &#8211; this time in exactly 14-days.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not a race, and I don\u2019t always read it that quickly.<\/p>\n<p>But I enjoy the sense of continuity when I do read it that way.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, that email spurred this question that can apply to any thick books you want to read:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>About today\u2019s mail, it inspired and challenged me so much, I\u2019ve been wanting to read the whole Bible in 6 months but I\u2019ve only read 4 books so far ( 2 books from Old Testament and 2 from new Testament) and my excuse has been I don\u2019t have time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But looking at your activities, I don\u2019t have any excuse.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I just work as Ghostwriter with a client, manage my church\u2019s social media page, and then study my books\/attend classes in Uni\u2026that\u2019s just it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I just need to be more intentional, cut off distractions and do what I need to do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I approach it like reading any fat book in a thin amount of time:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>* Take the number of pages in the book you want to read<\/p>\n<p>* Divide that number by the number of days you budget to read it<\/p>\n<p>* And then&#8230; do it<\/p>\n<p>So for example:<\/p>\n<p>If you want to read it in 6 months like he does, and if it is, say, 1200 pages&#8230; you simply divide 1200 by 180 days (6 months), and you get 6.66 (ooh) pages per day to do it, which you can round up to 7 pages to get it done even sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can read 7 pages per day.<\/p>\n<p>You could read 4 pages upon rising and 3 pages before bed.<\/p>\n<p>Or 3 pages in the morning, 2 pages in the afternoon, and 2 pages at night.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>You could do that almost without even trying<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s how you plow through thick books, or even entire book series.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s one reason I laugh at people who complain they don&#8217;t &#8220;have time!&#8221; to read. They have lots of time to read. Too much time, probably, on their hands.
