{"id":1988,"date":"2009-05-13T18:25:42","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T18:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=1988"},"modified":"2009-05-13T18:25:42","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T18:25:42","slug":"how-not-to-do-joint-ventures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/how-not-to-do-joint-ventures\/","title":{"rendered":"How NOT To Do Joint Ventures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been getting a TON of joint venture requests lately.<\/p>\n<p>And you know what?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m finding most of these requests extremely <strong>OFFENSIVE<\/strong>.  Not as a consumer or as a potential JV partner but as a <strong>MARKETER<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I mean the utter lack of salesmanship is just killing me.<\/p>\n<p>And below are just a few of the big mistakes I&#8217;ve been seeing. If you&#8217;re trying to set up JV&#8217;s, you&#8217;d be wise to avoid doing these things like the plague:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Unsolicited Email With Product Attached <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Something about getting an unsolicited product in an email just irritates the hell out of me (and many, many other marketers I know).  <\/p>\n<p>For one thing&#8230; nobody is going to open an attachment.<\/p>\n<p>And secondly&#8230; nobody is going to open an attachment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.  Assuming The Sale<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>I KNOW all the popular sales books say to do this.  <\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s a BAD idea on many, many levels.  Especially when you&#8217;re dealing with other marketers and sales people who know what you&#8217;re up to.<\/p>\n<p>A good rule of thumb?<\/p>\n<p>Treat people like people, not drooling prospects who can&#8217;t think.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.  Not Saying What&#8217;s In It For Them<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>This one&#8217;s pretty self explanatory, eh?<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.  Using Sales Tricks And Tactics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, I know they seem &#8220;cool&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>And, in some cases, they may even work.  <\/p>\n<p>But &#8220;tricking&#8221; people into buying is pretty lame.  Plus, you will never make the second (or third or fourth) sale. Which is where the real moolah is in business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.  Not Using Social Proof<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is probably the single best way ever invented to set up JV&#8217;s or any other kind of selling.  <\/p>\n<p>And yet, hardly anyone does it.  <\/p>\n<p>Go figure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.  Being Needy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing turns people off like neediness.  <\/p>\n<p>If you &#8220;need&#8221; someone&#8217;s deal then you&#8217;re dead in the water.  Nobody will touch your deal with a 10 foot pole.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just a big, fat turn-off.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, if you&#8217;re making any of these mistakes&#8230; STOP!<\/p>\n<p>Trust me on this.  <\/p>\n<p>In fact, if all you do is NOT make these mistakes, you&#8217;ll have a FAR greater chance of setting up profitable JV deals.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Hey, I KNOW my crack about assuming the sale drives the sales goo-roo purists crazy.
