{"id":2397,"date":"2009-09-23T14:59:45","date_gmt":"2009-09-23T14:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=2397"},"modified":"2009-09-23T14:59:45","modified_gmt":"2009-09-23T14:59:45","slug":"an-open-letter-to-marketing-newbies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/an-open-letter-to-marketing-newbies\/","title":{"rendered":"An Open Letter To Marketing Newbies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s email is for raw, &#8220;wriggling&#8221; newbies.<\/p>\n<p>The ones who are brand spanking new to marketing and don&#8217;t have a lot of time, resources or patience to deal with nonsense and fluff.<\/p>\n<p>If that&#8217;s you, then following is a list of ideas to consider.<\/p>\n<p>This list is by no means exhaustive.  <\/p>\n<p>And there ARE exceptions to everything.  <\/p>\n<p>But this is something lots of people have requested lately.<\/p>\n<p>OK, enough dilly-dally.<\/p>\n<p>As the Joker would say&#8230; &#8220;And here. we. GO &#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Never assume others&#8217; test results will apply to YOUR marketing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If someone&#8217;s ads are full of empty hype and contain no substance, you can (usually) bank on their PRODUCT being the same.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Just because someone&#8217;s a <em>celebrity<\/em> doesn&#8217;t mean they&#8217;re an <em>expert<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don&#8217;t swipe &#8220;big launch&#8221; sales letters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Run from anyone who <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.BenSettle.com\/blog\/marketing-gurus-i-avoid\">publicly counts their money<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consume a good &#8220;how to&#8221; product at <em>least<\/em> 10x&#8217;s before buying the next one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resist complaining about people sending you sales pitches. (Either unsubscribe or, do what I do and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.BenSettle.com\/blog\/allergic-to-selling\">actually READ &#8217;em<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When in doubt, do the OPPOSITE of what the &#8220;crowd&#8221; is doing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If it sounds too good to be true, it is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take lists like <em>this<\/em> one with a grain of salt.  (Bet ya didn&#8217;t see this one coming, did you?
