{"id":2812,"date":"2010-01-06T08:04:59","date_gmt":"2010-01-06T16:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=2812"},"modified":"2010-01-06T08:04:59","modified_gmt":"2010-01-06T16:04:59","slug":"why-every-marketer-should-go-see-sherlock-holmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-every-marketer-should-go-see-sherlock-holmes\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Every Marketer Should Go See Sherlock Holmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so I just saw Sherlock Holmes last night.<\/p>\n<p>Awesome movie, and I <em>highly<\/em> recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>No&#8230; not just for the action, adventure and entertainment &#8212; but because I think there&#8217;s just an awful lot to learn from the good detective if you&#8217;re a marketer and entrepreneur. <\/p>\n<p>Why do I think that?<\/p>\n<p>Well my dear Watson, here are a few reasons&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always Has The End In Mind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has A Distinct And Likable Personality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Executes Multiple Strategies Simultaneously<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fast Thinking In Stressful &#8220;Do Or Die&#8221; Situations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses Pressure Points &#038; Brain Power (Not Brute Strength) In Battle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obsessive When On The Job<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has All The Right Friends And Connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoids Using &#8220;Black Hat&#8221; Methods And &#8220;Tricks&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pays Attention To Details Everyone Else Misses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>And Lots, Lots More<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Frankly, I could do an entire MONTH of emails just on all the ways Sherlock Holmes can make one a much more effective marketer and entrepreneur.  <\/p>\n<p>But I don&#8217;t want to include any spoilers and ruin it for you.<\/p>\n<p>So instead, here&#8217;s your &#8220;homework&#8221; assignment:<\/p>\n<p>First, watch Sherlock Holmes.<\/p>\n<p>And secondly, note all the things Sherlock does that can be DIRECTLY applied to your business and marketing.<\/p>\n<p>Nonsense, you say?<\/p>\n<p>A waste of your precious time?<\/p>\n<p>Methinks not.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you want to know something?<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most successful marketers in history were HEAVILY influenced by the movie industry &#8212; including advertising genius <strong>David Ogilvy<\/strong> and the legendary copywriter <strong>Eugene Schwartz<\/strong>.
