{"id":3763,"date":"2010-09-15T00:00:42","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T07:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=3763"},"modified":"2010-09-15T00:00:42","modified_gmt":"2010-09-15T07:00:42","slug":"why-even-great-copywriting-epically-fails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-even-great-copywriting-epically-fails\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Even &#8220;Great Copywriting&#8221; Epically Fails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s email caused a bit of a ruckus.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that one?<\/p>\n<p>It was about how I think a lot of copywriters&#8217; websites are making a <em>big<\/em> mistake by trying to create demand for their copywriting services&#8230; instead of simply talking to those who are ALREADY looking for a copywriter.<\/p>\n<p>Well, guess what?<\/p>\n<p><strong>That mindset applies to ANY kind of selling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, even <em>info<\/em> products.<\/p>\n<p>Example?<\/p>\n<p>OK, once upon a time I was privy to someone giving a young copywriter an ad critique.  The ad was selling a product on how to buy large businesses.  The guy who gave the critique said it was a great ad, written well, very good &#8220;copywriting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But, he then said this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;The problem is, you have a solution looking for a problem.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And it was true.<\/p>\n<p>This ad spent a lot of time trying to convince people why they <em>should<\/em> want to make a lot of dough, why they <em>should<\/em> want time freedom, why they <em>should<\/em> want to travel and own cars and boats and houses, etc.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, it tried to &#8220;create&#8221; demand.<\/p>\n<p>A big no-no.<\/p>\n<p>And had it ran it would have FLOPPED.<\/p>\n<p>But because of the advice, it kicked <em>gluteus assimus<\/em> for years.<\/p>\n<p>And the copywriter?<\/p>\n<p>He learned a very valuable lesson about selling.<\/p>\n<p>(I know &#8216;cuz I wrote the original flawed ad &#8211; doh!)<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the point?<\/p>\n<p>Far too many ads are in &#8220;convincing&#8221; mode&#8230; when they should be in &#8220;persuasion&#8221; mode.<\/p>\n<p>This info has been worth a LOT to my business.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you put it to good use&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> For more <strong>PERSUASION<\/strong> (not convincing) tips, secrets and ideas, check out the valuable free bonuses you get (by instant download) when you subscribe to &#8220;The Crypto Marketing Newsletter&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.CryptoMarketing.com\" rel=\"noopener\">www.CryptoMarketing.com<\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s email caused a bit of a ruckus.
