{"id":4452,"date":"2012-06-13T06:00:57","date_gmt":"2012-06-13T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=4452"},"modified":"2012-06-13T06:00:57","modified_gmt":"2012-06-13T13:00:57","slug":"why-antisocial-media-still-rules-the-roost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-antisocial-media-still-rules-the-roost\/","title":{"rendered":"Why ANTI-social Media Still Rules The Roost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Social media blah blah blah.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone&#8217;s an expert at it.<\/p>\n<p>And if you ask some of these &#8220;experts&#8221;, they really do believe Twitter and FaceBook are the 8th and 9th wonders of the world &#8212; the twin messiahs that will usher in a new age of business peace and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>I kinda don&#8217;t think so, chief.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, they have their uses.<\/p>\n<p>But the REAL profits are not made on Twitter or FaceBook or any &#8220;social media&#8221; site.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re made with ANTIsocial media.<\/p>\n<p>Media that&#8217;s one sided conversations.<\/p>\n<p>With little or no interactivity.<\/p>\n<p>Take for example&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Direct mail<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year I briefly worked with one of the top direct mail consultants on the planet. He routinely was mailing something like 50k postcards per week selling a &#8220;how to make money in real estate&#8221; product.<\/p>\n<p>Real estate?<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that dead?<\/p>\n<p>Not in direct mail apparently&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Magazine ads<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I remember a few years ago, Dan Kennedy talking about a small display ad for men who want to be taller, how it had been running non-stop since&#8230; before he was even born!<\/p>\n<p>Just chugs and chugs along, year after year.<\/p>\n<p>Decade after decade&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Try doing that with a Tweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* PPC ads<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even though most of the goo-roo fanboys are banned from AdWords (how are those sneaky little &#8220;ninja tricks&#8221; working for ya?), that doesn&#8217;t mean PPC isn&#8217;t kicking major gluteus bootyus.<\/p>\n<p>There are people doing HUGE numbers with PPC.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, even with all of PPC&#8217;s silly rules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Email<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like it or not, you&#8217;ll build your business far faster regularly mailing a list of 500 email subscribers than you will with lobbing tweets at 100k twitter followers all day (assuming you know what you&#8217;re doing, of course&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Awright.<\/p>\n<p>Enough!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not totally knocking social media.<\/p>\n<p>After all, I use it myself.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s like sitting at the kid&#8217;s table trying to out-scream each other for attention, while the REAL business is being done at the adult&#8217;s table.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my opinion, leastways.<\/p>\n<p>And methinks the numbers agree&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Of course, my favorite antisocial media marketing tool is email.
