{"id":471,"date":"2008-09-20T06:02:32","date_gmt":"2008-09-20T06:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=471"},"modified":"2008-09-20T06:02:32","modified_gmt":"2008-09-20T06:02:32","slug":"the-copywriting-newbie-who-beat-eugene-schwartz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/the-copywriting-newbie-who-beat-eugene-schwartz\/","title":{"rendered":"The Copywriting &#8220;Newbie&#8221; Who Beat Eugene Schwartz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in 1992 a young copywriter took the direct mail world by storm.<\/p>\n<p>He went from a complete &#8220;nobody&#8221; people actually <em>avoided<\/em> at direct marketing conventions&#8230; to having a control for one of the biggest newsletter publishers in the country.<\/p>\n<p>A control so strong it lasted three years before being beaten by the legendary copywriter <strong>Eugene Schwartz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Then, six months after that, this young copywriter again <em>re-took<\/em> the control from Gene.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the copywriter who wrote this ad is <strong>Doug D&#8217;Anna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The name of this blockbuster control package is <strong>&#8220;The Great Retirement Betrayal.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And last year Doug released a DVD where he analyzed his ad to a group of newsletter publishers he calls:<\/p>\n<p><center><strong>&#8220;How To Write Long Copy That Makes Money&#8221;<\/strong><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In addition to his 30 minute speech, it also contains the actual control piece as well as a workbook with several advanced (and not commonly taught) copywriting tips and commentary.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, I do not make a dime if you buy this DVD.<\/p>\n<p>But I wanted to tell you about it because not only is it an excellent <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/free-swipe-file\">swipe file resource<\/a><\/strong>, but there isn&#8217;t an ounce of theory or &#8220;fluff&#8221; in it.  <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pure <em>red meat<\/em> you can pick up and run with no matter what kind of ad you&#8217;re writing now.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested you can check it out at:<\/p>\n<p><center><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/dougdanna.com\/how_to_write.html\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/dougdanna.com\/how_to_write.html<\/a><\/strong><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Ben<\/p>\n<p><strong>One more thing&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doug was gracious enough to let me interview him last year and I used to give it away free on this site.
