{"id":5065,"date":"2012-08-07T06:00:52","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T13:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=5065"},"modified":"2012-08-07T06:00:52","modified_gmt":"2012-08-07T13:00:52","slug":"the-email-jerk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/the-email-jerk\/","title":{"rendered":"The Email Jerk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gary Halbert in his newsletters used to quote this old saying&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;No good deed goes unpunished!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Case in point:<\/p>\n<p>I hardly ever respond to email questions (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Email Players subscribers<\/a><\/strong> being the exception). And if I do, they are addressed publicly as &#8220;fodder&#8221; for my daily emails so everyone can benefit from them.<\/p>\n<p>But, one time I broke that rule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And&#8230; I was reminded WHY I had the rule in the first place.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what happened:<\/p>\n<p>I thought it&#8217;d be fun to mix it up and answer some of the dozens of questions that can accumulate over a week. Anyway, I answered one dude&#8217;s email question about auto-responders and he soon replies back with&#8230; a <em>complaint<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, my &#8220;curt&#8221; answer bugged him.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, he liked the info.<\/p>\n<p>But he wanted a SALUTATION, dang nab it!<\/p>\n<p>A friendly greeting.<\/p>\n<p>And some fraggin&#8217; &#8220;cordiality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amusing, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>And kind of <em>useful<\/em>, too &#8212; as it was a solid reminder of the &#8220;gimme gimme gimme&#8221; mentality created by the Internet Gary Halbert wrote about lo them many years ago, and why I should be trying harder to REPEL such people.<\/p>\n<p>Hey, what can I say?<\/p>\n<p>I see biz lessons in everything.<\/p>\n<p>Even in dorky complaints.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a glass half full kinda guy&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Another cool thing that happened is it reminded me just how cool my &#8220;Email Players&#8221; subscribers are.<\/p>\n<p>They ask great questions.<\/p>\n<p>Are eager to learn and get better at email.<\/p>\n<p>And rapidly apply the info taught.<\/p>\n<p>They don&#8217;t whine and complain about info.<\/p>\n<p>They use it.<\/p>\n<p>And they&#8217;re a pleasure to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>My kind of people.<\/p>\n<p>To see if you qualify for this exclusive &#8220;club&#8221;, go to:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.EmailPlayers.com<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gary Halbert in his newsletters used to quote this old saying&#8230; &#8220;No good deed goes unpunished!&#8221; Case in point: I hardly ever respond to email questions (Email Players subscribers being the exception).
