{"id":6192,"date":"2012-08-28T06:00:37","date_gmt":"2012-08-28T13:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=6192"},"modified":"2012-08-28T06:00:37","modified_gmt":"2012-08-28T13:00:37","slug":"why-i-dont-name-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/why-i-dont-name-names\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I Don&#8217;t Name Names&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK, here&#8217;s the thing:<\/p>\n<p>Some people get frustrated with me (hard to believe, right?) because I&#8217;ll mention something I notice goo-roos doing. Or elude to something a specific goo-roo teaches. Or even come right out and describe a goo-roo and what they&#8217;re doing&#8230; but, without naming them.<\/p>\n<p>And this bothers some people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Their constant jonesing for gossip is STRONG.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, here&#8217;s the reason:<\/p>\n<p>Besides the potential <em>legal<\/em> ramifications&#8230; it can make you look either butt hurt and jealous or, even worse, (if you don&#8217;t have rock solid evidence) like a rat.<\/p>\n<p>A big, fat rat.<\/p>\n<p>And amigo, nobody ever really trusts a rat.<\/p>\n<p>(Except other rat-like people, of course.)<\/p>\n<p>Guys who go around naming names and make accusations without any hard, indisputable evidence are basically rats. And, even if they are not a rat, are right in their assessment of whoever they are calling out, and have the evidence, it can still come back and bite you some day.<\/p>\n<p>Why do you think good cops don&#8217;t rat out dirty cops?<\/p>\n<p>Or why drug dealers won&#8217;t talk to the DEA?<\/p>\n<p>(Even if they have a chance to screw over a competitor &#8212; yes, I&#8217;ve been watching too much &#8220;Breaking Bad&#8221;, but whatever&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>For every action, there&#8217;s a reaction.<\/p>\n<p>And you may not like the consequences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, if you MUST do it, at least be smart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do your homework.<\/p>\n<p>Triple check your facts.<\/p>\n<p>And then triple check them again.<\/p>\n<p>But, even then, don&#8217;t expect to sleep well.<\/p>\n<p>One of my good friends is VERY good at calling out bad guys by name &#8212; one of the few who does it in a classy, non-rat-like way. But he&#8217;s the first to admit it&#8217;s hair-raising and he&#8217;s not sure it&#8217;s worth it.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, there&#8217;s the time factor.<\/p>\n<p>Who has time for all that research?<\/p>\n<p>To obsess over someone else?<\/p>\n<p>Why not put that energy into your own business?<\/p>\n<p>Hey, do whatever ye like.<\/p>\n<p>But this is why I only talk about &#8220;types.&#8221; I give my *opinion* about behaviors and tactics and you either heed or SPURN my advice.<\/p>\n<p>Very clean.<\/p>\n<p>Very simple.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, that&#8217;s my take.<\/p>\n<p>And, let&#8217;s face it, I&#8217;m right (ha).<\/p>\n<p>Next &#8220;Email Players&#8221; issue goes to the printer in a few days.<\/p>\n<p>Be here or be nowhere:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.EmailPlayers.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, here&#8217;s the thing: Some people get frustrated with me (hard to believe, right?) because I&#8217;ll mention something I notice goo-roos doing.
