{"id":7452,"date":"2014-07-18T06:30:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T13:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=7452"},"modified":"2014-07-18T06:30:08","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T13:30:08","slug":"successful-people-need-lovin-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/successful-people-need-lovin-too\/","title":{"rendered":"Paid The Cost To Be The Boss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This email is for players in business.<\/p>\n<p>It won&#8217;t do newbies or spectators any good whatsoever &#8212; so if you feel left out, well, don&#8217;t be so selfish.<\/p>\n<p>Successful people need lovin&#8217; too&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, there&#8217;s a song I really dig called &#8220;The Boss&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s by James Brown.<\/p>\n<p>And, it&#8217;s peppered with arrogant and cocky language (how can you NOT like James Brown?) about how he &#8220;paid the cost to be the boss.&#8221; The context (from what I understand) is him telling his ungrateful band, &#8220;You ain&#8217;t shit without me and you know it &#8212; I&#8217;m the one who did the work to get us here, and that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m the boss.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To entrepreneurs it can have another meaning:<\/p>\n<p>A reminder to enjoy being the BOSS.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You earned it, daddy-0<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now go enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>Take trips on a dime whenever you feel like it.<\/p>\n<p>Drink imported beer and fine wines.<\/p>\n<p>Learn a new skill.<\/p>\n<p>Go on crazy adventures in Vegas or some foreign land.<\/p>\n<p>More:<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t enjoy the fruits of your labor you will never live up to your full potential, because you won&#8217;t be forcing yourself to expand your desires and, thus, make new goals to satisfy them.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, if this is you, here&#8217;s my advice:<\/p>\n<p>You paid the cost to be the boss.<\/p>\n<p>Now, take some time off.<\/p>\n<p>Spend some friggin&#8217; money.<\/p>\n<p>Live it up.<\/p>\n<p>Your business will still be there when you get back.<\/p>\n<p>And, you&#8217;ll attack work with renewed intensity and ferocity.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, there&#8217;s a practical reason for this:<\/p>\n<p>You never know when it&#8217;ll all be taken from you (it pays to be paranoid&#8230;) by your government, or when your freedoms will be further impaired in the name of &#8220;security&#8221; or &#8220;equality&#8221; or &#8220;the children&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>So do this, my little droogie:<\/p>\n<p>Look in the mirror.<\/p>\n<p>Quote this part of James Brown&#8217;s &#8220;The Boss&#8221; song:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;m a bad mutha&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then, go spend some of your well-earned smackola.<\/p>\n<p>Take off somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Have fun.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I&#8217;ll even see you in Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Email Players&#8221; subscription info here:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.EmailPlayers.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This email is for players in business.
