{"id":7499,"date":"2014-07-21T06:30:03","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T13:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=7499"},"modified":"2014-07-21T06:30:03","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T13:30:03","slug":"the-attitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/the-attitude\/","title":{"rendered":"The Attitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contrary to what the mush cookie marketers think:<\/p>\n<p>Email opt outs are not bad.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re good.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes <em>very<\/em> good.<\/p>\n<p>And there are practical, financial and profitable reasons for this I&#8217;ve covered (just go to my blog and type in &#8220;unsubscribes&#8221; in the search box) &#8212; making each unsubscribe you get an event to be celebrated, not weeped over.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a mental side to this.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p>Are you worried you lost a subscriber?<\/p>\n<p>Then you need to adjust that sad sack attitude of yours and start realizing the value you bring to your market.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my attitude:<\/p>\n<p>When someone opts out, I didn&#8217;t lose a subscriber.<\/p>\n<p>A subscriber lost me.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve lost nothing.<\/p>\n<p>They, on the other hand, have lost an ongoing free education on email marketing, copywriting, sales, persuasion, etc.<\/p>\n<p>What have I lost if someone leaves?<\/p>\n<p>Nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly I often remove people without them knowing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>My list is constantly on &#8220;probation.<\/strong><\/span><strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You step out of line, you make one false move, or start getting pissy with me, you&#8217;re outta here.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t think you&#8217;re the first.<\/p>\n<p>Ever see &#8220;Fast Times At Ridgemont High&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>It describes &#8220;the attitude&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The attitude dictates that you don&#8217;t care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin&#8217;.
