{"id":7677,"date":"2013-10-18T06:00:52","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T13:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=7677"},"modified":"2013-10-18T06:00:52","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T13:00:52","slug":"when-the-foolish-man-hears-of-the-ben-he-laughs-out-loud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/when-the-foolish-man-hears-of-the-ben-he-laughs-out-loud\/","title":{"rendered":"When The Foolish Man Hears The Ben, He Laughs Out Loud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not a fan of a lot of Eastern philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>But, I dig this quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;When a foolish man hears the Tao, he laughs out loud&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Cuz it has sooooo many applications.<\/p>\n<p>Especially with the contrarian info I use (and teach).<\/p>\n<p>For example, goo-roo fanboys laugh whenever I say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You can&#8217;t &#8220;scientifically&#8221; test email \u00a0(it&#8217;s impossible)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Pitch something every day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ignore online sales letters when studying copywriting (especially copy for big launches)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Don&#8217;t worry about typos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strive for MORE (not less) opt outs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And, especially, stop giving out all your best ideas, content and tips free as &#8220;PROOF!&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Etc, etc, etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>All the goo-roo fanboys laugh at the above.<\/p>\n<p>Some even go on forums and rail against it.<\/p>\n<p>After all, if something contradicts all the bullshit they&#8217;ve been wasting their money on, it&#8217;s only natural for cognitive dissonance to kick in and force their (already pooped out) rationalization hamsters to spin even faster&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Hey, do what you want.<\/p>\n<p>What I care about is what works.<\/p>\n<p>What saves time.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And, what brings in the most sales<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If someone wants to bore their list with hard content&#8230; obsess over unsubscribes&#8230; timidly pitch their product once per month&#8230; waste time thinking they&#8217;re &#8220;scientifically&#8221; tracking email metrics&#8230; all the power to &#8217;em.<\/p>\n<p>As for me?<\/p>\n<p>And my &#8220;Email Players&#8221; droogs?<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be the ones laughing.<\/p>\n<p>(All the way to the bank &#8212; as the foolish ones jump from one bright shiny object to another&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>BTW, I mentioned proof.<\/p>\n<p>The next &#8220;Email Players&#8221; talks in depth about this.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, 9 ways to embed layer upon layer of proof in your emails to make your claims sparkle with credibility.<\/p>\n<p>Simply.<\/p>\n<p>Easily.<\/p>\n<p>And, using basically just words.<\/p>\n<p>Go ye here to subscribe in time:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.EmailPlayers.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben Settle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not a fan of a lot of Eastern philosophy.
