{"id":7685,"date":"2013-10-22T06:00:44","date_gmt":"2013-10-22T13:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/?p=7685"},"modified":"2013-10-22T06:00:44","modified_gmt":"2013-10-22T13:00:44","slug":"creepy-disturbing-emails-i-get-from-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bensettle.com\/blog\/creepy-disturbing-emails-i-get-from-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Creepy Disturbing Emails I Get From People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finally set up ye olde home office since moving couple weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>And, one of the things I put up is a bulletin board on the wall tacked with all the post cards, thank-you notes and testimonials I&#8217;ve received via snail mail (way more impact sending this stuff via snail mail than email) from customers, clients, colleagues and subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite is the one that says:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;To the Heisenberg of email&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(It came with a t-shirt of Breaking Bad&#8217;s &#8220;Heisenberg&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, why put these up on my wall?<\/p>\n<p>To stroke my own ego?<\/p>\n<p>Hardly.<\/p>\n<p>You see, while I show you *some* of the hate mail, bat shit crazy comments and borderline personality disorder &#8220;drive-by&#8221; insults&#8230; I don&#8217;t share the really disturbing stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And, yes, it can get disturbing<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of these dorks need serious help.<\/p>\n<p>And so, what these positive comments and testimonials do is, they counteract all the dingbat comments and negativity (which can turn you cynical and cold-hearted if you let it).<\/p>\n<p>It also reminds me there are good people out there, too.<\/p>\n<p>People who work hard.<\/p>\n<p>Have gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>And, always move forward.<\/p>\n<p>(Especially after setbacks.)<\/p>\n<p>These are the people I strive to attract into my life.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also why I cut people out of my life who whine about their jobs&#8230; blame other people for their problems&#8230; and refuse to take responsibility for their decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Not saying they&#8217;re &#8220;bad&#8221; people.<\/p>\n<p>But, they suck the life right out of a room.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t realize how repulsive they are.<\/p>\n<p>And, attract other losers towards them who feed on that negativity like vampires feeding on a plump, veiny neck.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, moral of the story?<\/p>\n<p>Not to get all Earl Nightingale-y on you, but:<\/p>\n<p>Your mind is fertile ground.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;ll grow whatever you plant &#8212; good or bad.
