Recently, I received an amusing complaint.<\/p>\n
Basically, the unhappy person doesn’t like that I don’t give away\u00a0even more free information and I should take things more seriously\u00a0in my emails or… or… she’ll unsubscribe from my free daily\u00a0emails.<\/p>\n
Gasp!!!<\/p>\n
Whatever shall I do???<\/p>\n
I tell ya, I get such a kick out of complaints like that.<\/p>\n
Why?<\/p>\n
Because they’re toothless<\/em>.<\/p>\n I simply don’t grant people the kind of power over me where I need\u00a0them to be on my list, nor care if they go, stay, lay or pray. It\u00a0simply doesn’t matter to me one way or the other.<\/p>\n It’s like when my mom whacked me with a wooden spoon as a child.<\/strong><\/p>\n I don’t remember what I did, exactly.<\/p>\n But, whatever it was, my mom decided to discipline Child Ben by\u00a0spanking me on the ass with a giant wooden spoon.<\/p>\n Whack! Whack! Whack!<\/p>\n Over and over and over, until…<\/p>\n The wooden spoon broke on my butt!<\/p>\n And, I started laughing.<\/p>\n Which, no doubt, probably irritated my mom even more.<\/p>\n And so it is with the website subscribers complaining about free\u00a0information who “threaten” to unsubscribe. I laugh at their\u00a0punishment as cheerfully as I laughed off the wooden spoon breaking\u00a0over my butt.<\/p>\n Anyway, there’s a lesson here.<\/p>\n And, that is:<\/p>\n Don’t give anyone power over you.<\/p>\n Not customers.<\/p>\n Not clients.<\/p>\n And, definitely not people you send free stuff to.<\/p>\n Lose a big customer?<\/p>\n Go out and get 5 new ones.<\/p>\n A client decide to drop you?<\/p>\n Go ye and find a bigger, better client.<\/p>\n Someone threaten to unsubscribe from your email list?<\/p>\n Do it for them.<\/p>\n Scroll down and click that unsubscribe link for ’em.<\/p>\n Listen up, listen good, and never forget this:<\/p>\n If you are good at what you do… if you provide exceptional\u00a0service… if you excel at whatever it is you teach\/do\/produce…\u00a0there is far less supply of “you” than there are customers and\u00a0clients who need what you offer.<\/p>\n In other words…<\/p>\n You’re the prize<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n You’re the one who can pick and choose.<\/p>\n And, yes, you’re the one in control.<\/p>\n This is the essence of my “Email Players” methodolgy, too.<\/p>\n And you know what?<\/p>\n It leads to happier free website subscribers.<\/p>\n Happier paying customers\/clients.<\/p>\n And, yes, a happier You.<\/p>\n Check out the “Email Players” newsletter here:<\/p>\n
