A little while back my pal Doberman Dan found out why some of his\u00a0emails weren’t getting delivered to big parts of his list:<\/p>\n
Swearing.<\/p>\n
We’re not talking f-bombs here, though.<\/p>\n
We’re talking about relatively mild words.<\/p>\n
In fact, here is what he was told:<\/p>\n
Cablevision, a corporation operating a few different ISPs most\u00a0notable being Optonline, began blocking a few choice words from\u00a0arriving in their customer’s inboxes.\u00a0Those words include “Shit” and “Pissed”.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
How about that?<\/p>\n
Didn’t see that one coming, didya?<\/p>\n
Anyway, this is why I often find it amusing when online marketers\u00a0try to sound “tough” and “cool” by swearing like drunken sailors.<\/p>\n
When really, most of them sound like idiots at best.<\/p>\n
And, fake at worst.<\/p>\n
(Yes, I occasionally use a bit of profanity at times — but there’s\u00a0always a point to it, to bring attention to something or for\u00a0entertainment value, not to do it just for the sake of it)<\/p>\n
The solution?<\/p>\n
It’s like I told Dan:<\/p>\n
If you must swear, create your own swear words.<\/p>\n
Or, better, use foreign slang swear words.<\/p>\n
They make emails more fun to read.<\/p>\n
And, if done right, more profitable, too.<\/p>\n
What?<\/p>\n
You don’t know any?<\/p>\n
Worry ye not, babycakes.<\/p>\n
