One of my favorite “Sunday night insomnia” movies is:<\/p>\n

“On Borrowed Time”<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s kinda like a “Twighlight Zone” tale.<\/p>\n

Basically, it’s about this old man who tricks the grim reaper up\u00a0into his apple tree on his property, and traps him there (with all\u00a0the repercussions of such a thing having to be dealt with —\u00a0nothing and nobody dying, etc).<\/p>\n

End spoiler.<\/p>\n

Here’s why I bring it up:<\/p>\n

Mr. Brink (the grim reaper) is talking to the old man’s grandson\u00a0who likes to make up words on the spot. But, even though the the\u00a0boy makes up his own words, the meaning of those words are clearly\u00a0understood — which the grim reaper tells him.<\/p>\n

The point?<\/p>\n

This is how the human brain works.<\/p>\n

It fills in the gaps when you’re communicating<\/span>.<\/p>\n

There have even been readership studies done showing entire\u00a0paragraphs of words could be read, even if they were spelled wrong\u00a0as long as the beginning and ending letters were consistent with\u00a0words people already know.<\/p>\n

Well, something like that.<\/p>\n

What’s important is realizing this:<\/p>\n

You can (and should) create your own words.<\/p>\n

Or, if you don’t have the time, inclination, creativity or desire\u00a0to create your own… then simply borrow slang from other cultures,\u00a0countries and languages.<\/p>\n

I do this all the time.<\/p>\n

And, you should, too.<\/p>\n

I’ll even make it easy on you.<\/p>\n

Use it.<\/p>\n

Abuse it.<\/p>\n
