And, like it or lump it,\u00a0it&#8217;s 100% true &#8212; the world really is changed with a checkbook.<\/p>\n<p>Not hashtags.<\/p>\n<p>Or handwritten signs on tumblr.<\/p>\n<p>Or good thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>Or positive thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Or the law of attraction.<\/p>\n<p>Or electing &#8220;your&#8221; politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Or Facebook &#8220;likes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Or soaking the middle class and rich in more taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Or social media images with the guy who played Willy Wonka\u00a0espousing someone&#8217;s political or ideological propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>Or Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Or corrupt bureaucrats.<\/p>\n<p>Or the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Or&#8230; or&#8230; any of that nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>No my little droogie, it comes from a checkbook.<\/p>\n<p>And oftentimes, several checkbooks.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p>One of the organizations I support (with my checkbook, not by\u00a0holding some dorky little sign up or simply retweeting them with a\u00a0hashtag) is called &#8220;The Innocence Project&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>You know what they do?<\/p>\n<p>They help get innocent people out of prison.<\/p>\n<p>And, they do it with DNA testing, re-examining peoples&#8217; cases,\u00a0uncovering fraud and corruption in the legal process, etc.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ve helped exonerate over 300 people so far.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s 300 people who were (on average) in prison for 13 years\u00a0(including 18 who were on death row) enduring all the usual fun\u00a0times prison has to offer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dodging rapists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Corrupt &amp; violent prison guards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Wondering when (or if) they&#8217;ll see their spouse or kid again<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No freedom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Constant fear &amp; physical danger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Food that&#8217;d make a rodent sick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And the list goes on&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well guess what?<\/p>\n<p>When the Innocence Project takes a case on, it isn&#8217;t some fool\u00a0waxing stupid on flakebook and trying to shame people into liking a\u00a0post that pays for the work it takes to get the innocent man off.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a checkbook.<\/p>\n<p>Or, in this case, lots of checkbooks.<\/p>\n<p>Lots of people putting their money where their mouths are.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the point?<\/p>\n<p>Nothing to do with marketing.<\/p>\n<p>No business insights, either.<\/p>\n<p>Not even (gasp!) anything about email.<\/p>\n<p>No, the point is this:<\/p>\n<p>As a business owner with financial independence (or someone\u00a0working on being financially independent)&#8230; and who has\u00a0the ability and opportunity to work for yourself&#8230; call your own\u00a0shots&#8230; make your own paycheck&#8230; control your financial\u00a0destiny&#8230; you have the chance to affect real change.<\/p>\n<p>The kind of change that saves lives.<\/p>\n<p>In his &#8220;System Club Letters&#8221; Ken McCarthy put it best:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;One of the best things you can do for your country is to become\u00a0economically independent &#8211; and use your economic independence to\u00a0take a stand against the forces that routinely undermine our\u00a0communities and our country. If people like us don&#8217;t do it, who&#8217;s\u00a0going to?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Good point, Mr. McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, something to chew on.<\/p>\n<p>My vehicle of choice for financial independence is email.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s what I teach in &#8220;Email Players&#8221; each month and it&#8217;s something\u00a0you can learn, too.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to master using this vehicle, simply do this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Log off facebook for a few minutes<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. Go to this link:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.EmailPlayers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.EmailPlayers.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3.
