Recently I was watching one of my favorite sitcoms “Two and a Half\u00a0Men” (the Charlie Sheen episodes, not the later ones, which are\u00a0boring and lame).<\/p>\n
If you’ve never seen the show:<\/p>\n
It’s about two brothers and one of the brother’s son.<\/p>\n
The one brother (Alan) is a schlubby guy, always broke, scorned\u00a0and rejected by women, repulsive to be around, pathetic, terrible\u00a0social skills, neurotic, and the list goes on. The other brother\u00a0(Charlie) is the exact opposite. He is successful, plenty of cash,\u00a0has no problem getting dates, charismatic, dream job, and garden\u00a0variety fun dude.<\/p>\n
Anyway, my ex-copywriting apprentice watched some episodes.<\/p>\n
And, she said something about how I often remind her of Charlie.<\/p>\n
(As well as Ralph Kramden from the show “The Honeymooners”, but that’s another email…)<\/p>\n
Which I found kind of amusing.<\/p>\n
Why?<\/p>\n
Well, it’s like I told her:<\/p>\n
“I don’t know about that, but I do know back in my teens and 20’s I\u00a0definitely was Alan. Hellz, I was even more pathetic, depressing,\u00a0and naive about how to be successful, obsessing over what others\u00a0think of me — a totally socially awkward mush cookie. I shudder\u00a0just thinking about it…”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
It’s 100% true, too.<\/p>\n
(If anything, I’m downplaying my past Alan-ish-ness.)<\/p>\n
The point?<\/p>\n
A lot of my “Ben Settle Show” podcast is about what I’ve learned\u00a0climbing out of my miserable “Alan” ways — including mistakes\u00a0I’ve made (not just in business, but personal life), mindset shifts\u00a0that have added more of the green stuff to my piggy bank and freed\u00a0up my time, and inner game ideas that have made life (both business\u00a0and personal) a ho’ bunch more fun and exciting than in my hopeless\u00a0Alan days.<\/p>\n
The teachings aren’t always blatant.<\/p>\n
(Often they are, though.)<\/p>\n
But they’re always there, even if between the lines.<\/p>\n
And, if you apply the lessons, you WILL see improvement — whether\u00a0in business, selling, being more persuasive &\u00a0charismatic, etc.<\/p>\n
Hey, if I can improve anyone can.<\/p>\n
I really was the proverbial lost cause.<\/p>\n
(And, yeppers, I’m still very much a work in progress.)<\/p>\n
