Last week I did something I rarely do:<\/p>\n
Partook in a Facebook group conversation beyond a mere smart ass\u00a0comment or drive-by one-liner. What happened was, a friend has a\u00a0service where his team makes their clients a ton of sales by\u00a0testing and tracking and building funnels, etc. Anyway, they had\u00a0made one particularly big client a hog-nasty pile of money, but\u00a0that client was getting some bad advice on the sneak by some 3rd\u00a0party, and suddenly didn’t think they needed my friend’s service.\u00a0Thus, they were always talking my friend’s ideas and plans and\u00a0strategies down during their meetings, etc.<\/p>\n
In other words:<\/p>\n
The game was pretty much over anyway<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n But, he was wondering if there was a way to salvage it?<\/p>\n My advice?<\/p>\n Fire them immediately, of course.<\/p>\n Or…<\/p>\n Go all General MacArthur on their asses.<\/p>\n Here’s what I mean:<\/p>\n During one of the more famous battles of the Korean War, General\u00a0MacArthur wanted to land his troops in the Port of Inchon, which\u00a0was admittedly dangerous and super risky, but would give the Allies\u00a0a huge tactical advantage if it worked. The Chiefs all had their\u00a0say, saying no, they couldn’t do it, too risky, won’t work, etc.<\/p>\n What did MacArthur do?<\/p>\n Keep pleading his case?<\/p>\n Argue?<\/p>\n Get mad?<\/p>\n No, what he did was, he silently listened to all the naysaying and\u00a0nervous-nellying without uttering a single word. Then at the end,\u00a0when everyone was done and declared their decision not to land in\u00a0the Port of Inchon, General MacArthur took his corn-cob pipe out of\u00a0his mouth and clanked it into the ashtray, stood up and said:<\/p>\n “Gentlemen, I will be landing in Inchon this September or you will have another commander.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Aaaaaaand that’s how it’s done.<\/p>\n Here’s the way I see it:<\/p>\n If you’re in a situation like my friend was in… instead of\u00a0stressing about it, pull a MacArthur and let your client (who\u00a0thinks they don’t need you anyway) writhe around, gasp, gape in\u00a0awe, and back down. Or (if you’re lucky) they’ll just fire you and\u00a0release you into an ocean full of bigger, better paying clients who\u00a0value you.<\/p>\n It might sound “unorthodox”, I suppose.<\/p>\n But, I like making people ante up.<\/p>\n And would have things no other way.<\/p>\n For more of my “unorthodox” ideas, go to:<\/p>\n
