Recently, I did a podcast on my political views.<\/p>\n
There was nary a bit of actual content in there, and I was harsh on\u00a0high tax rates, abortion (which is particularly revolting and gruesome\u00a0to me), gun control, big government, and a bunch of other things I\u00a0think are harmful and destructive.<\/p>\n
Thus, I expected some shriek mail.<\/p>\n
But, got none.<\/p>\n
In fact, even those I heard from who disagreed with me were all\u00a0cordial, polite, and respectful.<\/p>\n
In other words… they had lives to live.<\/p>\n
Businesses to build.<\/p>\n
And, better things to do than get in pissing matches.<\/p>\n
Still, one bloke wanted to know if I’d jump in and help him on a\u00a0debate he’s having on Facebook about some of these things.<\/p>\n
My answer?<\/p>\n
I’d rather have my blood sucked out by leeches.<\/strong><\/p>\n Debating on Facebook is the epitome of wasting my time. It’s one\u00a0thing to present your views about something (anything), make your\u00a0case, and move on. It’s quite another to get into some long,\u00a0pointless pissing match with someone that will never change\u00a0anyone’s mind, regardless of how many facts, statistics, or appeals\u00a0to authority (“but a SCIENTIST said it, so it must be true!”) you\u00a0can muster up.<\/p>\n More:<\/p>\n Facebook debates are packed straw man arguments.<\/p>\n It’s like all people do is pick the most bungling voice\u00a0they want to hate on, and then say “see they’re all stupid!”<\/p>\n Kind of amusing to think about, actually.<\/p>\n That said…<\/p>\n There are people who simply thrive off debating on Facebook. It\u00a0energizes them, and they insist it helps hone their persuasion\u00a0skills. (Which I can see being a reason to do it). For others, I\u00a0suspect it’s like their version of TV — fun entertainment.<\/p>\n (Just a more self righteous brand of it.)<\/p>\n But, I don’t get the appeal of it.<\/p>\n And, probably never will.<\/p>\n Anyway, lemme bottom line this:<\/p>\n If my politics, religion, or any other views (especially business,\u00a0marketing, sales, email, copywriting, yada, yada, yada) give you\u00a0heartburn then guess what?<\/p>\n There’s the unsubscribe link.<\/p>\n Don’t be shy about using it.<\/p>\n For everyone else?<\/p>\n Check out:<\/p>\n
